Destination: Kauai, Hawaii
Description
Although it is one of the smallest of the main Hawaiian Islands, the forces of nature in Kauai have had more time to break the island down and produce more sand beach around its 110-mile coastline than any other island in the chain. Meanwhile, it remains the least populated of Hawaii's four counties (with roughly 56,000 permanent residents), and both development and tourism have been concentrated in relatively few locations. All of which furthers the sense that Kauai is, in fact, a separate kingdom.

Local Information
Kauai has five major resort destinations. Kalapaki Beach Resort, in the capital of Lihue, overlooks Kalapaki Bay and the island's major seaport, Nawiliwili Harbor. Stretching along the Eastern shore of Kauai, 10 miles north of Lihue, the Royal coconut Coast claims the largest percentage of accommodations, shops and historical sites on the island. Majestic mountains, valleys and bays dominate the lush, pristine Princeville and North Shore region, a 45-minute drive from Lihue. Sunny Poipu, 20 minutes south of Lihue, offers the finest beaches and conditions for water sports. A grand canyon, charming old plantation town and a state park boasting 435 miles of hiking trails are among the features of West Kauai, located 45 minutes from Lihue.

Airport Information
Lihue Airport, about 1.5 miles east of Lihue on the southeast coast of the island of Kauai, provides passenger and aircraft facilities for domestic overseas carriers, interisland carriers, commuter/air taxi, air cargo, and general aviation activities. Though Lihue Airport accommodates some direct flights from the U.S. mainland, most flights into Kauai originate as interisland flights from Oahu's Honolulu International Airport and other smaller airports in the Islands.

Local Weather
It seems almost irrelevant to think of weather when you visit a beautiful island in the Tropics. In Kauai every day is a great day with warm temperatures during the day dropping just enough later, making for pleasant evenings. The water temperatures are extremely inviting as well. Another benefit to visitors is that any time of year is ideal -- unlike many destinations when a little strategic planning is required, Kauai's weather is glorious year-round.

Entry Requirements
We recommend all persons travelling abroad should carry a passport due to heightened security at airport check-in and immigration. If you do not have a passport , please contact your airline or your local consulate or embassy in regards to travel documentation necessary for your vacation.
